The Truth plus the Fiction Regarding Guaranteed Search Engine Placement
Article by Ray Whittaker
Guaranteed search engine placement isn’t feasible. There, I’ve said it! I have put it out there and someone is going to wonder ‘so what is all of the SEO hype all about then’? Okay, so allow me to elaborate: Nobody can guarantee to get your website to a certain position on a particular search engine unless of course it is for a keyword that nobody else is using. That really opens a whole totally different can of worms; and if this all appears complicated, you’re not alone in thinking that.
The problem is that SEO can be something of a black art. Most of us really don t understand what happens behind the scenes so they leave it all to an SEO company which provides guaranteed search engine placement. But when you go over fine print, the guarantee will not be worth much. For anybody who is planning on investing in Web optimization services here are three questions to ask for the best results:
1. Which Keywords May Get a Guaranteed Search Engine Placement?
Onpage SEO concerns targeting certain keywords. The goal is usually to get your online site to the first page of the search sites when users enter those keywords. The questions it’s important to ask are:A. Are a sufficient quantity of buyers in fact searching for the same keywords?B. Are your prospects or target market searching using the same keywords? The point is, when the people you want to find are not searching on the net using those keywords, there can be no point in getting your website at the primary position.
2. On Which Search engines Could you Have a Guaranteed Search Engine Placement?
Many Web optimization firms will only offer a guaranteed search engine placement on the first page of the top search sites. But what do they regard as being the ‘top’ search sites? Everyone is aware of Google, Yahoo and Bing but there are numerous others. SEO businesses often include other less known sites as part of their list of top search sites; including Lycos, Altavista, Netscape and Excite to mention just a few. However most people that use search sites use Google. You can still get visitors from the others naturally but you still need your websites to be listed on the first page of Google for best results.
3. What Should a Guaranteed Search Engine Placement Gain Me?
Even if your web site gets to the highest position, there is no guarantee that it will stay there. Nearly all Web optimization providers will only guarantee a page one position. So what can you expect to get out of a first page position? A large amount of research has been conducted on page one searches. It shows that somewhere in the region of 50 per cent of searchers will click on the highest result on page one of Google. The options further down the page get progressively fewer clicks. It’s probably safe to assume that the same goes for other search engines.
Some of the page one positions might only draw one percent of the searchers. These aren’t exact figures but there could be a big difference between the best and worst positions on page one. And since you will never really get a guaranteed search engine placement you must be certain there are actually plenty of people searching to make the one percent worth chasing; which clearly, brings me immediately back on to the first point I made. You will need enough of the ideal people searching for that keyword for it to become definitely worth the effort of ranking with it.
Have these three questions in your mind when you choose an SEO professional. Make certain you can determine what they mean when they promise a guaranteed search engine placement.
