Search Engine Optimization and SEO Packages. Whatever happened to the 90’s?

Article by Ryan Malone

A long time ago, Search Engine Optimization was easy. Marketing on the internet in general was easy. You would tell a few friends about your new website, send a few e-mails and talk on Windows Messenger or ICQ, and you would have an army of users at your doorstep waiting to get in.

These days, it is not easy at all. Publishers purchase SEO Packages, SEO Services, we use terms such as SEO (Search Engine Optimization), ROI, CTR, compared to 15 years ago when the internet mirrored real life, for better use of words, “if you build it, they will come”. I still remember the first webpage that I created on Geocities back in the late 90’s. To be honest, I don’t even remember anything about using the right keywords, marketing, or anything like that. We simply created a decent looking site using the editor on Geocities, and told everyone about it.

15 years later, I convince myself that I am going to take the high road, and do something different. I am going to become a publisher, and teach myself SEO. And hasn’t that been fun! Long gone are the days where you would simply design and upload, now you have competition, and virtually every single aspect of the web is designed for either marketing, or another different form of marketing or monetization.

Although, it is not all hard. It’s simply something new to add to your already present knowledgebase. It’s actually quite simple! Here are a few very quick tips that will help you along as a newcomer:

Domain Name – Make sure that your domain name has the powerful keywords that you would like to dominate contained in the URL.Meta Tags and Description – In your meta tags, ensure to always use your dominating keyword. In your description, also mirror this dominating keyword, plus at least 3 other variants that are in your meta tags already. Use the <h1></h1> tags to emphasize these keywords.Keyword Emphasis on page – Always write content that emphasizes your keywords, and ALWAYS keep your main keyword close to the top of the page, and emphasize it!Search Engine Submission – Its simple to submit to Google. It is also simple to set up a Webmaster Tools account so you can submit a sitemap to Google. This will only act to make sure that your site is indexed faster!Promotion – This is varied. Use social bookmarking services like they are going out of style. Too many of them? That’s fine! Use Social Marker. At the same time, use Twitter, Facebook, and do what I am doing right now. Submit articles that are relevant to your niche!

Whilst there are plenty of methods out there, the best one is to learn as you go. Read e-books, participate in forums and discussion groups, create articles, and with that knowledge, try out what you have learned. If it doesn’t work, go back to the drawing board and learn from what happened. That is the only way to succeed in this crazy market!
